Welcome to btS – Life Sciences Student Initiative e. V. in Lübeck

Your association for networking and career guidance!

Whether you like marzipan, know the Holstentor, or have read Buddenbrocks or not – with us, you will not only rediscover Lübeck at our numerous socialising events, but also gain a unique insight into what life sciences mean here in the north, broaden your horizons, and strengthen your teamwork skills. Because...

Our projects are varied!
Direct contact with companies and institutes gives us the opportunity to organise lectures, workshops, excursions and panel discussions for students and anyone else who is interested. This gives everyone the chance to look beyond their own horizons and discover completely new possibilities. We also organise charity campaigns to support a wide range of non-profit organisations and offer university students a variety of opportunities for further development.

Our motivation is what drives us!
Our motivation is based on the principle of ‘development through cooperation’. btS not only connects different students at the University of Lübeck, but also offers us the opportunity to be active in a diverse network throughout Germany. These collaborations with students from other universities, institutes, companies and European partners enable us to develop and implement fantastic projects. However, the results of such collaborations are not limited to the fantastic projects themselves: every member has the opportunity to develop both personally and professionally. This includes contacts with future potential employers, but also the development of soft skills such as rhetoric, self-management and project management, and much more through internal btS training events.

We are a team!
We are a team of motivated and sociable students from a wide range of disciplines at the University of Lübeck. Bachelor's and Master's students, as well as doctoral candidates from various STEM courses such as Molecular Life Science, Medical Nutrition Science, Computer Science, Mathematics in Medicine and Life Sciences, etc. are enthusiastically involved in our projects.

...Are you curious and would like to come along to one of our meetings to find out more, with no obligation? Even if you are just new to the city and want to meet nice people, you have come to the right place!

Unfortunately, you don't have time to come to our next meetings or have questions about one of our activities? – Then just send us a quick email. We also meet regularly – you are very welcome to come and check us out.

We look forward to seeing you!

The btS FAQ

Any student or doctoral candidate can become a member.

Our focus is on the life sciences, but all other disciplines are also welcome.

No prior knowledge is required. You will learn the tools of the trade together with your team members and/or in seminars and workshops. You can find further information here.

We offer you a wide range of opportunities:

From small tasks such as buying snacks for a lecture to organising an event, contributing ideas, approaching potential cooperation partners, designing posters, to board positions or membership in nationwide working groups and project teams (e.g. career fair organisation), you can try everything. It all depends on your personal preferences and strengths.

We plan events that interest us! In addition to company excursions and presentations, workshops, seminars and lectures on scientific topics and other practical tips, we offer a wide range of activities. Do you have an idea that you would like to implement? Then come by and get involved. Simply send an email to vorstand.luebeck@remove-this.bts-ev.de

How much time you want to and can invest in your voluntary work is entirely up to you. You decide which projects you want to work on and which tasks you want to take on.

Local involvement: Most offices meet once or twice a month for one to two hours. In addition, you can get involved in organising projects according to your capacity and preferences.

Nationwide involvement: Most nationwide working groups and project teams meet about once a month. There, they discuss current strategies and projects in which you can get involved individually as you wish.

During exam periods, things are generally a little quieter for us, as most of us are also busy with exams at that time. If you find yourself short of time, you can often hand over your tasks to another team member. The important thing is to communicate this in good time so that we can find a solution together.

You are welcome to attend one of our next meetings without obligation. Simply send an email to vorstand.luebeck@remove-this.bts-ev.de.

You are also welcome to become a member. You can find further information here.
