What is the BAM?

btS Alumni Mentoring – known as ‘BAM’ for short – is a mentoring programme run by btS Alumni for committed students. btS members and other committed students are individually accompanied and supported by a mentor in BAM as they make the transition from university to working life.

BAM has been running since 2017 and has supported around 20 students every year since then.

What happens during mentoring?

The mentoring programme lasts one year, and mentees and mentors are paired up in tandems in a matching process based on the interests and knowledge of both parties. Mentees and mentors then meet (usually digitally) at regular intervals to discuss topics, share knowledge, give feedback or practise. Typical topics include questions about what to do after graduation – internships, studying abroad, doctoral programmes, trainee programmes or direct entry. Mentors can also provide insight into professional fields. Mentors often offer support in the application process – from job searches and feedback on cover letters and CVs to mock interviews. However, any other topics can also be discussed – the tandem alone determines the goal of the mentoring.

In addition to individual mentoring in tandems, the BAM also offers a supporting programme every year. This ranges from workshops and networking between tandems to a mentor database for gaining even more insight into professional fields.

How can I participate as a mentor?

The new year always starts in spring (and lasts 12 months).

If you would like to become a mentor, please register in spring each year via the Forms survey. In this survey, we ask you which topics you can offer support in during mentoring so that we can match you with the best possible mentees.

Whether you will be a mentor is only decided in May after the matching process, as sometimes there are more mentors than mentees registered. In June, we start with a joint digital kick-off to get to know each other.

What was the mentoring experience like for former mentors and mentees? Just listen to the short introduction below, which we recorded last year.

How can I participate as a mentee?

If you are in the final year of your studies and would like to be accompanied by a mentor, you can register for the next year. Registration is organised directly by btS e.V. and you should find all the information you need in the ShortNews.

After registration, matching will take place based on the interests and knowledge of both parties. Unfortunately, there is no guarantee that you will be accepted, as this depends on the number of registrations from mentors and mentees.

If you are accepted, we will let you know in May. In June, we will start with a digital kick-off meeting to get to know each other.
