Find your way in life sciences!

Discover your career opportunities and your potential in the life sciences with us!

btS e.V. – The life sciences student initiative

The association for students and doctoral candidates in the life sciences

We are students and PhD candidates from all fields within life sciences, here to support our fellow students on every step of their career way – from their first semester to the start of their career. We offer space for new experiences, creativity and further development as well as networking opportunities on both a local and national level. We expand the educational program and offer a public platform for current life sciences topics.

Have you ever asked yourself...

Career orientation

... which profession is the best fit for you?
… in which field or company you want to work later?
... where you can conduct your thesis?
... whether you should do a doctorate or not?
... how to successfully start your career?

Zwei Personen im Gespräch

Network & contacts

... how to find working groups for your thesis?
... where you can obtain insider knowledge about jobs?
... who can share experiences with you for career orientation?

Scientific interest

... where you can obtain information and exchange ideas on current scientific topics beyond your studies?
... whether there are free symposia available for students?

Further training & development

... how to stand out in the application process?
... which soft skills you should develop?
... which hard skills you are still lacking?

Who is the btS and what do we do?

All these questions are also relevant to us members of the btS. This means that we students and doctoral candidates in the life sciences are particularly well placed to understand what concerns our fellow students. Since our foundation in 1996, we have benefited from our large network of supporters from universities, industries, other funding organizations and our dedicated alumni in our efforts to solve these problems.

Through many different events and projects, we want to share possible solutions with our fellow students and thus enrich the university landscape with our services. We address all life sciences degree programs from biology, biochemistry, biophysics, bioinformatics, biotechnology, pharmacy to medicine.

Here we show you an overview of our offers and event formats. These are organized by students for students, and participation is generally (with few exceptions) free of charge.

Voices on the btS

Svenja Elsner

btS member from Berlin

I joined btS because I thought “I have to do something for my career”. Having voluntary work on your CV is great, of course. But what I only realized later was how I have developed personally and now know better what I want, what I can do and what I still want to learn.

After almost 10 years of involvement in the btS, I have not only experienced personal growth but was also able to make an impression during my job interview by showing my good sales conversation skills, my personality and also my networking skills.

The btS offers an excellent opportunity to come into contact with industry and also get to know life sciences students from all over Germany. On top, organizing projects help enormously in strengthening your soft skills.

We have been working with the btS again and again for years. Both the organizers of the events and the participants are very committed. They genuinely live by the motto “By students for students”. What the members put together alongside their studies is fantastic. We are delighted to receive such an enthusiastic welcome every time.
